We are fast approaching the arrival of Fall, and with it, the top two conferences within the self storage industry. Many don’t feel the need to attend these events, thinking “what can these people tell me about my business that I don’t already know, or that I haven’t heard at one of these shows before?”
From The BSC Group’s perspective, the clear answer is: a lot! It’s often necessary to take a step away from the day-to-day of running a self storage facility to gain perspective. By simply talking with other storage owners, commiserating about missed rents, bragging about occupancy rates and hearing the newest technological advances, a new angle can often be found to update “something” about the business. It is never a bad idea to take a moment and share a “best practices”.
These events pull from the top self storage operators, whether they are large scale REITs or small one-off facility owners, to provide specific advice covering a broad range of topics, including construction, marketing, sales, as well as the critical areas of finance and facility management.
The BSC Group is proud to be both vendors and speakers at these events, and looks forward to the knowledge we gain each year. Our favorite part of these events is networking while staffing our booth. That’s when we get to hear what’s really happening anecdotally at self-storage facilities across the country, from the owners other than our core clients. Being able to speak face-to-face with the people who are “in the trenches” always helps us to gain insight into what we do on a day-to-day basis, and how we can better serve our clients.
